The aim of family counselling is to help everyone in the family to understand and cope better with the stresses and strains of family life. The counsellors help all members of the family to say what they think and feel so no one is overlooked or feels unheard. Family counselling is for parents and children, or siblings, or any other combination of family members. Often parents with adult children use the service to make sense of their relationships, and to take steps forward in how they relate to each other, and other family members.

The counsellor will meet with the family together, and may also see individuals on their own for some sessions. Children as young as five can participate and the counsellors will use child friendly techniques in order to enable them to communicate in a way which is appropriate for them.

Who is the service for?

Many families use the service when parents are going through a divorce or separation, or when a new step family is forming.

Many families use the service in the aftermath of a violent relationship, when the perpetrator has gone, and the remaining members of the family want to rebuild their relationships and make sense of what has happened to them.

Family Counselling will help you to improve communication between family members, reduce conflict and build stronger more resilient relationships.
